Il Mostro

Il Mostro, Bologna

This is The Monster, as the locals call it friendly, and was originally planned by the Frati Passionisti in 50’s, in order to create a school for juvenile students. The architect involved was the renowned Glauco Ghesleri, and the name of the building was originally settled in “Village of the Children”: 5 floors, 100 meters in length with the aim to deliver a big amount of young priests and monks. In the original idea there was also a hosting house for their families, just besides, when they come to visit. The project started just after the financial support has been given by the local government, in 1964. Soon after the vocational crisis which involved the religious compartment, the project was abandoned at this brutalist appearence.

Ironically, this huge building in reinforced concrete is today a playground area for weekend satanists, writers as well as softair players, which gave to it the nowadays profile, a Monster building towering in front of the local most Sacred Church.
